John McGowan has a history of strong leadership in our community, serving as a Rockland Legislator since 2020. He also served as a prosecutor in the Rockland County District Attorney’s office and volunteers in his community, including his current role as President of the Rockland County Ancient Order of the Hibernians. As a litigator, John is not afraid of making tough decisions and will advocate for the residents of Rockland in Albany.
As an Assemblymember, John will focus his efforts on issues of critical importance to the future of Rockland County and New York State:
Public Safety
John will fight against bail reform laws that put dangerous criminals back on the street and in positions to harm again.
JOHN, A TRAINED AND PROFESSIONAL ADVOCATE AND FORMER PROSECUTOR, WILL FIGHT TO ENSURE THAT NEW YORK STATE PRIORITIZES SAFETY OF ITS RESIDENTS BY FIGHTING TO REPEAL BAIL REFORM AND LAWS THAT PUT CRIME VICTIMS’ WELL-BEING SECOND.
Supporting Law Enforcement
John has worked with members of law enforcement both as a criminal prosecutor and private attorney and knows the sacrifices they and their families make on a daily basis to serve our communities.
JOHN KNOWS THAT TO ENSURE A BETTER AND SAFER NEW YORK, WE NEED LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL TO HAVE THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO DO THEIR JOBS AND WILL BE A TIRELESS ADVOCATE FOR THE POLICE IN ALBANY.
Making New York Affordable
Residents are leaving New York State in droves because the cost of living, coupled with inflation, has made it unbearable. This needs to be fixed and elected leadership at all levels of government need to find ways to ease the cost of living in this great state.
JOHN WILL WORK TO FIND WAYS TO CUT WASTEFUL GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND ENSURE NEW YORK IS AFFORDABLE FOR ALL.
Supporting School Districts
John is concerned about the future of New York State and Rockland County; that begins with ensuring our children receive a well-rounded and complete curriculum with parents who have a say in their kid’s education.
JOHN WILL FIGHT TO INCREASE SCHOOL AID AND ENSURE PARENTS HAVE A SAY IN THEIR CHILDREN’S EDUCATION.
Repeal Congestion Pricing
John knows firsthand, as a former student commuting to NYC from Pearl River, the cost of transportation to the city. Increasing the price tag for workers and students is unfair and impacts Rocklanders who already pay among the highest taxes in the U.S.
JOHN WILL FIGHT TO REPEAL CONGESTION PRICING AND INCREASE STATE AID FOR TRANSIT AND INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS.
Preserving and Protecting Quality of Life
As a lifelong Rockland resident, John values the tranquility of our bucolic suburban county and its vibrant, strong communities. Many residents originally moved to or decided to stay in Rockland, investing in their homes and properties because they believe Rockland is the best place to live, raise a family, or develop a business. John wants to keep Rockland the great place to live that attracted so many here in the first place.
JOHN WANTS TO MAINTAIN THIS LIFESTYLE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS AND WILL NEVER WAIVER FROM THE GOAL: PRESERVE AND PROTECT OUR QUALITY OF LIFE AND COMMUNITIES.
Zoning and Code Enforcement
Zoning laws and building codes are created for a reason: to allow safe and sustainable structures to be built. Lax enforcement of these codes, along with overdevelopment, has created a culture of noncompliance and lawlessness in many parts of the County and State.
JOHN WILL WORK TO PROTECT LOCAL CONTROL OF ZONING AND PRESERVE SINGLE-FAMILY NEIGHBORHOODS.
